The then new Hong Kong commuter train had some stringent requirements. Each car held an enormous number of people (700?) and the design of the tunnel and car system prohibited passengers exiting by the side of the train (in a tunnel) in an emergency. The end doors were it! The patents resulting from John's concept and design got the Metro-Cammel company the lucrative build project. Of course, it was their idea to find an innovative solution for this purpose. |
