FWIW, my customer service experience with Versalab has been stellar. They've repeatedly gone above and beyond the call of duty to keep me happy.

But if you buy from Versalab, you're dealing with a completely different animal. IMHO, Versalab has put more innovation in their little espresso machine and grinder than all the Mazzers, Cimbali, Dalle Cortes and La Marzoccos put together.

They are a miniscule operation that makes handmade, boutique coffee products only. They have NOTHING in common with Mazzer, Cimbali, etc, both in the nature of their products and in the way they do business. The machines are a little high-strung, and probably require a little more care and feeding to keep them going. I'm not sure what the exact automotive analogy would be, but think maybe Lamborghini vs Cadillac. Different strokes for different folks!

In terms of appearance, compact design and grounds distribution, the M3 grinder is certainly in a class by itself. You should buy from them if you think their product meets your needs better than the competition, and if you like the idea of buying directly from the same slightly eccentric folks who personally design and build the things. If you demand to be serviced in exactly the same way that a Mazzer or Cimbali would service you, perhaps you should just buy from those companies instead.

Laura,

Your e-mail prompts me to write to report that my grinder continues to provide outstanding service every single day. There is absolutely no problem of any sort whatsoever. I consider some of the online commentary to the contrary to be obnoxious, offensive, and not in good faith. You have my sympathies: that's what happens when you deal with the public -- which is why I won't.

Insofar as everything is working very well right now, I will continue the philosophy of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and not install the upgrade offered in your e-mail.

Best of luck to you both,
C. F. Washington, D. C.

Let me just say this grinder is gorgeous! It's pretty much a work of art.

Hi Laura,

Just a short note to inform you that the grinder arrived safe and sound today.

Yes - it was worth the wait.

Thanks to you and John for releasing the "taste genie" and truely unlocking the flavor in the bean. 'Spresso the way it's meant to be.

WOW!

Sending you sunshine from Florida.

Best Regards,
W. B.

Yes of course you may use my comments.

When you notified me that the grinder would be shipping soon, I froze the pound of Toscano that was on hand - already a week old at the time. I pulled it out the day before the grinder was delivered and we've pulling shots of it the past two days on the hybrid Linea. This coffee should be well past its prime, but flavors are emerging that have never been evident - mainly fruit. Toscano is noted for its chocolate and carmel flavors and they're still in the cup but now the fruit has emerged. There is a clarity in the cup that allows the flavors to be clearly identified. Reminds me of the listening experience with the Linn Sondek turntable system and the realization that more information is retrieved from the record. (John will appreciate that, I'm sure.) News Flash - in this digital world, coffee is primarily an analog experience.

i really love it.
its the best thing i have ever purchased.
i also have used it in meetings to show what american design and manufacturing can do.
my clients have been blown away by the weight of it and if they drink good espresso - the integrity of it.
(i have an architect and interiors firm.)
i have a cottage out on the beach and whenever i am there, i miss it.
so i was wondering if i could put my name in and prepare for the future.

Laura, using the M3 grinder is nothing short of a pleasure. I most frequently use a light roasted high acid blend that can be quite finicky. Since using the grinder I've noticed that even faster shots still have a nice mellow taste. In the past these shots would have been sink shots. Not so with this grinder. In fact, since adjusting the grinder for my roast, I have not thrown one shot away. It is clear this grinder is superior to others out there, both by visually observing the shots as well as in the taste. Moreover, it is superior in its user friendliness. It is darn simple to use and very quiet. I've noticed that since getting the grinder, my wife no longer makes French press, but only brews espresso. She has commented several times about how much she likes the grinder and how easy it is to use. It is simply a joy to use!
P.S. I *love* the way the M3 grinder distributes the grinds into the PF. I doubt anything else comes close. It's made me quite lazy in my dosing technique.

I'm *very* pleased with the grinder. . . . I've never had a grinder like it - It does a fabulous job of grinding evenly. Not to mention the fact that I'm currently producing the best espresso I've ever made because of it.

Yes I'm definitely happy with my M3. I believe there's no other grinder that has less residual grounds, except hand-crank mills maybe. It's quite easy to use even for my wife, who has never made espresso before. Certainly I would recommend it . . .

I love the grinder. What I like the most is the uniformity of the particle size and distribution. I haven't had an overextracted shot since I started using the grinder. I usually run it for a few seconds before and after each shot, because occasionally some small amount of old grinds do fall out.
